TRAVERS UNDER FIRE AFTER CLEAN SWEEP DETONATION — FALLOUT FEARS GROW AS GOVERNMENT DISMISSES REPORTS

By Gina Morales, The Waldonian

In the wake of President Harris Travers’ decision to deploy the experimental “Clean Sweep” nuclear warhead inside Waldonian territory, a political firestorm has erupted across the country. What the administration initially hailed as a “precision triumph” has rapidly spiralled into one of the most contentious crises of Travers’ presidency.

Growing reports of radiation sickness

Residents in communities near the blast zone have begun reporting symptoms consistent with radiation exposure, including burns, nausea, and severe headaches. Though the administration insists the weapon is “fallout-free,” independent scientists and medical workers say evidence is mounting to the contrary.

“It was irresponsible to suggest this device carries no long-term risk,” said one environmental physicist. “Early readings indicate contamination far beyond what the government is admitting.”

An administration in denial

At a tense press conference on Tuesday, President Travers waved off the reports as “fake news,” accusing journalists of being “spiteful” and deliberately trying to overshadow what he called a “historic victory.” His combative tone, including several patronising remarks towards female reporters, has only intensified public frustration.

Members of his own national security team appeared visibly uncomfortable as Travers praised his “bold leadership” and described the blast as “a near-perfect solution.”

Behind the scenes: alarm and dissent

Several senior officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, describe a Waldhouse consumed by internal disagreement. According to one aide, the Clean Sweep deployment was executed “against strenuous objections” from military advisers who feared both the humanitarian impact and international backlash.

Since then, Chief of Staff Master Devlin has reportedly taken an extended leave of absence, officially to pursue the fugitive Waldclaw leader, Waldo. However, multiple sources suggest the absence may stem from a deepening rift between Devlin and the president in the wake of the strike.

A nation demanding answers

Prominent figures and former officials across Waldonia have demanded a full independent inquiry into the detonation, citing both potential radiation risks and what they describe as “a dangerous erosion of civilian oversight.” Environmental groups are organising large-scale demonstrations, while legal scholars debate whether Travers’ unilateral decision violated established norms regarding the use of weapons of mass destruction.

A presidency shaken

Though Travers remains defiant, the crisis shows no signs of abating. What was once touted as a decisive blow against the Waldclaw insurgency is now threatening to overshadow the victory entirely, leaving citizens, commentators, and global observers asking the same question:

If the Clean Sweep truly posed no danger, why is the government working so hard to silence anyone who says otherwise?

CLEAN SWEEP STRIKE: TRAVERS DELIVERS VICTORY

By Douglas Weary, Vox Waldonia

One week after President Harris Travers launched the “Clean Sweep” nuclear strike against Warlord Waldo’s Skunkbreed forces, the operation is being hailed as a decisive triumph. Despite hand-wringing from some in the liberal media and political commentators, public support remains strong.

In one fell swoop, the Clean Sweep obliterated the bulk of Waldo’s forces with minimal civilian losses. Within hours, elite Special Forces liberated the towns of Waldron and Waldhaven, achieving their objectives with no casualties. The precision and coordination of the operation have reinforced Travers’ reputation as a decisive and effective leader.

Critics argue that using a nuclear device on home soil was reckless and question Travers’ initial caution in responding to the insurrection. Yet independent polls indicate 77% of Waldonians support the strike, applauding its swift resolution and minimal collateral damage. Residents directly affected by the insurgency report relief and gratitude for the outcome.

One Waldron local put it simply: “We were terrified, and then it was over. Travers did what needed to be done.”

Earlier today, President Travers and other Waldhouse officials attended the funeral of Waldron Mayor Eleanor Grayson, who was tragically executed just minutes before the town was liberated—a solemn reminder of the stakes involved in ending the insurrection.

Even a week on, the Clean Sweep is remembered as a defining moment for Waldonia—demonstrating the nation’s strength and Travers’ willingness to act decisively. Whether hailed as brilliant or questioned by critics, the operation solidifies his legacy and sends a clear message: Waldonia does not tolerate threats.
