Kaz Miller

Overview

Kazuhira McDonell Benedict Miller is a former mercenary and immigrant from the Metal Gear universe. As a recurring character in the Waldoverse, he works as a chef and operates a mobile rapid burger deployment unit, a burger van known as Pax Hamburgana.

Physical Description

Kazuhira was born in Yokosuka, Japan in 1946, to an American officer and a Japanese woman, giving him a distinctive blend of American and Japanese features. He stands around 6 feet tall with blonde hair and is rarely seen without his signature aviator sunglasses. His bionic arm and leg highlight his past as a war veteran and add to his rugged appearance. Like his buddy Frakes, despite technically being around 80, in the Waldoverse he seems to be frozen in his 40s, never ageing.

Background and Role

In the Metal Gear universe, Kaz’ history is rooted in combat and mercenary work. A seasoned war veteran, he has led private military companies and constructed military bases, shaping both his professional and personal life.

He was first introduced in the Waldoverse as the owner of a greasy-spoon burger bar, Pax Hamburgana, in Anchorage, Alaska. Master Devlin sought him out to assist with constructing Master Base. Although initially delayed and impersonated by Widdle Frunkut, he eventually arrived and helped run the base.

Kaz later decided to return to his true passion: his patented “Chemical Burgers”. He moved to Widdlington, bought a burger van, and, with Master Devlin’s help, secured exclusive rights to park on Masters Council grounds. He has been serving the district ever since, gaining a loyal following.

Despite his desire for a quiet life, Kaz is often among the first called when Waldonia faces a major threat. His military and tactical skills proved invaluable during the Nilbog Wars and in helping overthrow Travers during his mad emperor arc.

Personality

Kaz is rebellious and anti-establishment, balancing a rugged mercenary past with a quieter life as a burger van owner. Despite his reluctance, he is often drawn back into conflict, relying on his sharp combat skills, tactical expertise, and leadership experience.

He is also a skilled guitarist, a notorious womaniser, and possesses a biting, often dark sense of humour. Fluent in Japanese, Kaz reflects his mixed heritage. His creativity extends to his work, where he crafts unique and distinctive burgers that set Pax Hamburgana apart.

While he generally sides with the greater good, Kaz has a morally ambiguous streak, evident in his controversial views on race—particularly towards Sub-Saharan Africans—and in enabling his best customer, Frakes, in his unhealthy addiction to chemical burgers.
