Wesley Wyndam-Pryce

Overview

Wesley Wyndam-Pryce is an immigrant from the Buffyverse and a recurring character in the Waldoverse. Like his father, Roger Wyndam‑Pryce, he is a prominent member of the Masters Council. He currently holds the title of Prince of Waldonia through his marriage to Queen Mayuri I.

Physical Description

Wesley is a tall white man with a medium build, short brown hair, and a composed, scholarly demeanour. Due to the curious circumstances of the Waldoverse, he appears to be permanently frozen in his late thirties. In his earlier years he favoured well-tailored clothing and a clean-shaven, highly polished appearance that reflected his formal upbringing. Over time his style became more casual and darker in tone; he abandoned his trademark glasses and now typically wears a constant light stubble.

Wes in Tales From The Waldoverse No. 52

Wesley was first introduced to the Waldoverse as the unexpected replacement Master for the goblin Widdle Frunkut, despite warnings from Master Devlin about the goblin’s true nature. Overconfidence and inexperience led to disastrous consequences, leaving Wesley temporarily wheelchair-bound, sectioned, and facing a long recovery. After returning to the Masters Council, he worked behind the scenes while quietly coping with the trauma of his time as wF’s Master.

During this dark period, he sought comfort with Mayuri Travers, who was suffering from temporary amnesia and working as a sex worker on Council campus. Later, during the Nilbog Crisis, Wesley took on a more prominent role, acting as tactician and general for survivors in the Waldstone mansion under wF's rule as “Warlord Waldo,” earning Devlin’s respect as a capable and reliable ally.

Wesley later played a key role in opposing the tyrannical Emperor Travers, helping Devlin bring down the mad ruler. During this time, his bond with Mayuri solidified, eventually leading to marriage. He now serves alongside Mayuri as Prince of Waldonia, helping rule the kingdom and raising their daughter, Mildred.

Personality

Mirroring his arc in the Buffyverse, Wesley began as a rigid, by-the-book Master who placed immense faith in rules, scholarship, and procedure. Initially somewhat arrogant and overly confident in his academic training, he lacked real-world experience and often struggled when faced with genuine danger. Despite this early awkwardness, he possessed a strong sense of duty and believed that knowledge and discipline were essential tools in the fight against evil.

A defining influence on Wesley’s character has long been his strained relationship with his father, Roger Wyndam-Pryce. Raised under intense expectations and a distant, demanding parental figure, Wesley spent much of his life seeking approval he rarely received. This dynamic contributed to his early insecurity and perfectionism, as well as his persistent drive to prove himself worthy.

Over time, Wesley underwent a profound personal transformation. Hardship, betrayal, and difficult moral choices hardened his outlook and stripped away much of his former idealism. He developed a far more pragmatic and ruthless mindset, becoming willing to make severe decisions if he believed they served the greater good. This evolution also brought greater independence, confidence, and emotional restraint, replacing much of his earlier insecurity.

Despite his darker outlook, Wesley retained a fundamentally moral core and continued to fight on the side of good. His later personality is characterised by quiet determination, strategic thinking, dry humour, and a tendency toward introspection and self-criticism.

Now a husband, father, and the Prince of Waldonia, Wesley has softened somewhat, regaining much of the humanity and emotional openness that had once been buried beneath years of hardship. While he retains the pragmatism and resolve forged during his darker years, he now balances it with a renewed sense of stability, responsibility, and quiet compassion.

Abilities and Skills

Wesley possesses extensive academic and occult knowledge, particularly in the fields of demonology, ancient languages, and mystical lore. Highly intelligent and analytical, he is also a capable strategist and tactician.

Through years of field experience, he developed strong combat abilities, becoming proficient in firearms, hand-to-hand combat, and the use of specialised weaponry against supernatural threats. In addition to his scholarly expertise, he possesses limited practical skill in magic and other arcane disciplines.
