Tess von Hildendorf

Overview

Contessa “Tess” von Hildendorf is Widdle Frunkut's second ex‑wife and a recurring character, or rather two recurring characters, who both now live in present‑day Widdlington as a result of time travel.

Physical Description

Tess is a short and somewhat stout gentoo penguin with the typical anatomy of her species. She is easily recognized by her large, expressive eyes and slightly anthropomorphic features. As a quarter magpie, she inherited a sharp, alluring quality from her mother. Her appearance is always polished and meticulously maintained, reflecting her wealth, social standing, and taste for luxury.

It is unconfirmed, but for reasons never fully explained, she may be immortal or at least unusually long‑lived, similar to Widdle Frunkut.

Personality

Tess is the textbook definition of a gold digger, drawn to power and wealth above all else. She is frequently rude, dismissive, and openly condescending toward anyone she considers beneath her, which includes nearly everyone, even Master Devlin despite his noble lineage. Her interactions are marked by icy disdain, and she rarely hesitates to treat others poorly if it benefits her.

Despite this, Tess is highly pragmatic. In moments of crisis, she is willing to cooperate with those she normally scorns, provided it serves her interests.

Background and Family

Tess comes from the prestigious von Hildendorf dynasty, a wealthy and influential family based in the northeastern mountains of Waldonia above the town of Yokelstedt. Their ancestral castle stands as a symbol of the family’s long‑standing power. Her father, Count Rigel Archibald von Hildendorf, is a gentoo penguin infamous for his extreme frugality despite the family’s vast wealth. Her mother, Lady Magdalena Celestina von Hildendorf, is half gentoo and half magpie. She abandoned the family when Tess was a chick, leaving a lasting mark on Tess’s personality and ambitions.

A Tale of Two Tesses

Tess was first referenced early in the Chronicles of Widdle Frunkut as Widdle’s supposed penguin girlfriend, but she did not appear onscreen until the Future Empire arc triggered by the Editor’s time jump.

"Future Tess"

In the year 2528, it is revealed that Widdle Frunkut ruled as Kaiser Waldo VII for over 500 years with Tess as his Kaiserin. Their marriage was strained and largely transactional. Waldo, fully aware of her nature, spent much of their union attempting to avoid her, while Tess pursued wealth, status, and imperial influence.

After Waldo and Master Devlin abandoned the future timeline and were returned to the early 21st century, Kaiserin Tess eventually used a time machine to follow them. Her attempt to reclaim her husband and power failed, leaving her stranded in present‑day Widdlington.

Although the marriage was later declared illegitimate by Master Devlin and the entire future arc was de‑canonised, Tess retains full memory of her centuries as Empress. She remains deeply bitter about losing her throne and continues to regard Waldo with a mix of resentment and ambition.

Rise and Fall in the 21st Century

After a stint imprisoned in a zoo for being a nuisance, Tess became a major figure during the Nilbog Crisis, rising to the title of Warlord of West Widdlington. Following the restoration of peace, she relocated to the fashionable Waverly Hills district in Wallywood, where she owned the high‑end Von Hildendorf boutique on Waldeo Drive.

During the Travers Administration, Tess became a prominent political lobbyist and a leading member of the ACPP and blackmailed her way into the Waldhouse and secured the position of Secretary of Aesthetic Affairs.

Travers later accused her of drugging and sexually assaulting him and using the recording to blackmail him. Although the accusation was true, it damaged Travers far more than Tess. After his impeachment and resignation, she successfully sued him, winning £7 million in damages and an initial 20% stake in TNT Entertainment, later increased to 45% after Travers insulted the judge.

Downfall

Master Devlin, attempting to help Travers, struck a deal with Count Archibald, kidnapped Tess and brought her home, but when she spoke about being Empress 500 years in the future, her father assumed she had gone mad.

Devlin, choosing not to reveal the truth, arranged for her to undergo psychiatric care under the Masters Council. Her father seized her assets and returned the TNT shares to Devlin.

Present Tess

Months later, a surprise visitor arrived in Widdlington: the present‑day, non‑time‑traveling Tess von Hildendorf, who had spent the past two decades living in the south of France. She claimed she was also married to Widdle Frunkut and needed him to sign divorce papers so she could marry her new fiancé, Marcel du Plume of the du Plume family of Saint Tropaz.

Her arrival confirmed that Future Tess had been telling the truth, forcing Dr Shawn to release her.

Current Status

Present Tess:

Count Archibald, upon learning he had two daughters due to time travel, declared Future Tess an abomination and disowned her. He now focuses entirely on Present Tess, who is married and has inherited the Von Hildendorf boutique. She continues to enjoy elite status and is a main cast member on The Real Housewives of Waverly Hills.

Future Tess: Having been disowned and stripped of her assets, Future Tess now works at Travers’ strip club, TNT, as a penguin pole dancer, shaking her tail for Waldmart fish sticks. Despite her circumstances, she remains as entitled and rude as ever.
