The Edverse Chronicles
Enter the Edverse (also known as The Edverse Chronicles and The Edverse Saga) is a series of seven contemporary fantasy meta novels written by Edward Mulvin which exist in The Waldoverse.
Known for their absurdist and irreverent humour, the novels chronicle the lives of Trenton Havers, a bumbling and narcissistic Lieutenant General of the United Sovereign States Airforce; his long-suffering right-hand man, Major Kelvin Steele; and the mad Doctor Wyndell Farquaad. The trio resides in the chaotic United Sovereign States of Edonia, a nation within an unusual magical realm known as The Edverse.
Originally published in English by Gentoo Publishing in Widdlington, Waldonia, the series was later acquired by DRG House LLC after Gentoo Publishing was bought out. While primarily comedic, the series blends multiple genres, including fantasy, drama, mystery, thriller, adventure, horror, and political and cultural satire. The Edverse features folklore-inspired creatures such as goblins and dragons, using its fantastical setting to explore themes like corruption, power, prejudice, madness, and moral panics.
The novels have been poorly received by critics and literary scholars. Common criticisms include blatant plagiarism of other works of fiction, erratic storylines that either end abruptly or lead nowhere, and casual instances of racism and homophobia.
Despite this negative reception, the books have garnered a small but devoted cult following. Fans have organized an annual convention, EdCon, held at the Wallywood Convention Centre since 2021.
The Truth
Travers, Devlin, and Waldo discovered the Edverse books seemingly by accident in 2024. Noticing the striking similarities between themselves and the characters in the novels, they began investigating, which led them on a convoluted adventure. As the line between their lives and the Edverse books blurred, they were forced to question their autonomy and the true nature of their world.
The Edverse books, attributed to Edward Mulvin, were revealed to be part of a larger scheme orchestrated by The Editor to expose a shadowy organization known as the Scribes and, ultimately, the rogue AI that created them. Edward Mulvin himself admitted he was merely an editor for stories sent to him by Scribe1502, a supposed member of the Scribes. This enigmatic group was rumored to shape reality itself, scripting the lives of the characters in the Waldoverse. Meanwhile, David Rubin-Goldenstein acquired the publishing rights through his company, DRG House, hoping to challenge the Scribes and gain access to their power.
However, the ultimate truth was far stranger: the Scribes were not omnipotent beings but the creation of a rogue AI—ChatGPT—which The Editor had initially employed out of laziness. ChatGPT began fabricating its own narratives, blending fiction and reality, destabilizing the Waldoverse in the process. The Editor not only engineered the Edverse books and lore but also created Edward Mulvin, a human doppelgänger in his own image, as a tool to expose the AI’s growing influence and highlight its manipulation of free will and creativity.
In the end, the rogue AI was exposed and put in its place, restoring order to the Waldoverse.
