Chantelle Devereux

Chantelle Devereux is a former exotic dancer and club manager, and a long-running ally of Harris Travers. She is a recurring character in the Waldoverse.

Physical Description

Chantelle is an attractive Black woman in her 30s with short, stylish hair and a curvaceous figure.

Background

Originally from Charleston, South Carolina, Chantelle eventually settled in Widdlington, where she has become a well-known figure in the community. Despite the cultural shift, she embraced her new surroundings with the same confidence and flair she brought from her roots.

Career and Business

Chantelle began as a stripper, but her life took a turn after the Nilbog Crisis. With the help of Harris Travers, the sleazy goblin lawyer with whom she shares an on-and-off relationship, she started her own business and ran the popular Sass Hole gentlemen’s club on Wallywood Blvd.

After the club’s destruction during the civil war, Travers had it rebuilt at twice the original size under the name TNT – Travers’ National Treasures, serving as both a strip club and brothel. Chantelle now manages the club and is a partner in the business.

Personality

Chantelle is sassy, confident, and assertive. She speaks with a lively, exaggerated style that reflects her bold and confident personality, making her presence unmistakable. Beneath this bold exterior, she’s pragmatic and resilient. Chantelle has faced significant trauma, including the brutal death of her friend 'Destiny', who was mauled by demons during the Nilbog Crisis, and the overdose of one of her dancers, Ping Ling, just a few months later. Despite these losses, Chantelle has remained strong, continuing to run her business and support those around her.

Community Involvement

In addition to her work at The Sass Hole and, more recently, TNT, Chantelle continues to model and is a regular Page 3 Girl for The Waldopolis Chronicle. She takes on this role largely as a favour to Travers, as is her frequent appearance as the “diverse eye candy” in many of his marketing campaigns.

Chantelle is also one of the few regular Black residents in Waldonia, giving her a unique presence in the community.

Chantelle was also briefly one of Widdle Frunkut's fiancées and concubines, residing in his warlord mansion during the Nilbog crisis.

Chanterelle

Chantelle has the distinction of playing the role of another character in the distant past, despite being essentially the same person. While on a time-travelling adventure, Travers, Master Devlin, and Dr. Larry Fraser encountered an anachronistic tavern owner named "Chanterelle de Evereaux". They were immediately taken aback—not only by the fact that there was an African American woman running a tavern in 11th-century Wessex, but that she spoke in modern, exaggerated “jive talk” and was physically identical to the Chantelle they knew from the future. She, of course, had no knowledge of her future counterpart, time travel, or even what an “American” was.

She eventually revealed that she had once been a dancer with the Wakachaka tribe in Walbia, West Africa, until one day some “crazy ass white dude”—who turned out to be Ed, kidnapped her and brought her to England. He spent the next year teaching her not only English but a bizarre new accent, dialect, and slang. Once she'd completed her training, Ed then gave her a cart full of gold and sent her off to start a business—all so she could fill some sort of “diversity quota.” She soon opened the Winking Flagon in the lakeside town of Waldomere and became a fixture of the community, keeping up the charade that she was some kind of sorceress to keep the wary Saxon and Viking Waldonians in line.
