Widdlington during the nilbog crisis.

The Nilbog Crisis
The Nilbog Crisis was a season-long arc in which the ancient evil being, Nilbog The Corruptor, was summoned by Reg Van Der Beak and Delacroix Vincent using a mystical amulet. Although Nilbog was not yet powerful enough to return to corporeal form, he plunged Widdlington into eternal darkness by blocking out the sun, filling the air with an eerie green mist, and unleashing hordes of demons that roamed the city, creating a nightmarish hellscape.
Initial Impact
The city’s descent into chaos occurred swiftly and offscreen. Master Devlin, returning from a week-long business trip abroad, was shocked to find Widdlington drastically changed. He eventually discovered his friends taking refuge at Waldstone Mansion, also known as The Playpen Mansion, in the Waverly Hills district of the Wallywood borough. At this stronghold, Waldo and Harris Travers, who were sharing the same body at the time, had established a base. The mansion, magically protected by a young priestess, housed many human refugees, including several familiar faces from the Waldoverse.
A Fractured Widdlington:
The crisis led to Widdlington being divided among powerful warlords:
- Tess von Hildenforf: controlled West Widdlington, having pledged fealty to Nilbog / Reg in exchange for power and commanded an army of skunkbreed vermin.
- Reg Van der Beak (and the non-corporeal Mr. Vincent) ruled over Widdicombe from the Citadel, declaring himself Pharaoh Khufu Van Der Beak.
- Mr. David Rubin-Goldenstein** and his Mossad allies controlled Wald Street and eastern Waldford Heights. Son of Davina Rubin and Seth Goldenstein who played a pivotal role in the Battle of McMurdo.
- Mr. Teeth, a prominent loan shark, ruled over Walver Lake.
- Lord Humungus held the southern “Badlands,” formerly known as Waldobury.
- Daimyo Sayuki Sing Kang Waldo and her associate Skunk VII ruled Little Akiba.
- Dr Larry Fraser , the witch doctor ruling western Waldford Heights.
- Guthrie Govan, a sandwich enthusiast, governed Warburton.
- Waldo / Travers who controlled the Wallywood borough.
Conflict and Resolution
A protracted war unfolded, primarily between Wallywood and Widdicombe, with various skirmishes. With neutral territories eager for peace, Harris Travers managed to broker a ceasefire and negotiated the release of some prisoners, including Ermintrude Maine-Anjou. Some territories were exchanged, such as Tess receiving the Waldeo Drive district and Humungus relinquishing the Masters Council grounds.
The war reignited when Master Devlin, dissatisfied with the current situation, manipulated Tess Von Hildendorf into declaring war on Reg Van der Beak. Devlin and his new allies, employed successful guerrilla tactics to weaken Reg. Initially opposed to Devlin's actions, Travers later seized the opportunity to his advantage by delivering a rousing speech. He promised to end the war and restore daylight to the Waldoverse, which energized the residents of Waldstone Mansion and led to a climactic battle. Allied forces, led by Devlin, stormed the Citadel, resulting in Reg’s defeat and Mr. Vincent fading away.
Aftermath
Sunlight soon returned to the Waldoverse, and life began to return to normal. Reg Van der Beak, who had his foot shot off during the final battle, is currently serving a life sentence in Waldgate Prison. The status of Nilbog and Vincent remains unknown.
