Harris Travers
Harris John "Jack" Travers is a sleazy yet charismatic goblin from Widdlington and one of the prominent characters in The Waldoverse.
Physical Description:
Travers stands at 2 feet 5 inches, a fairly typical height for a goblin in his world. His head is proportionately large, giving him a distinctive silhouette. His slim build is complemented by his rubbery, amphibious appearance, with slick green skin that gives him an almost glossy look. His big pointy ears, sharp teeth and sharp claws are a testament to his goblin heritage. His expressive face is dominated by striking yellow eyes, framed by prominent ridge-like brows that give him a perpetually intense expression. True to form, he lacks a visible nose, giving his face a streamlined, almost alien appearance.
Travers takes great pride in his appearance, often dressing in a stylish and smart manner. He typically wears a crisp shirt and trousers, complemented by a vest or waistcoat and a suit jacket. A carefully chosen tie completes his sophisticated look. His attire sets him apart from many of his goblin peers, who may not share his penchant for refined clothing.
His brown toupee is always meticulously combed into a neat side parting, reflecting his meticulous nature. This neatness is echoed in his large, bushy brown moustache, which is impeccably groomed and adds to his distinguished demeanor.
Travers' voice is distinctive, carrying the rough, charismatic edge of an American man in his 40s and his accent reminiscent of Jack Nicholson. This unique vocal quality adds to his charm and makes him a memorable character, whether he is engaging in conversation or delivering a persuasive argument.
Personality and Traits
Somewhat brash and excessively confident, Travers embodies classic narcissism with an inflated ego. He frequently refers to himself in the third person as a "National Treasure." Despite his self-assured exterior, Travers isn't particularly sharp and can come across as comically slow or foolish. Nonetheless, his charisma and sleazy charm often help him navigate life, allowing him to adapt and talk his way out of trouble.
A prominent aspect of Travers’ character is his sex addiction. He harbours a significant preoccupation with the opposite sex, especially busty human women. Despite his physical shortcomings, his charisma and persuasive skills make him unexpectedly successful in seducing women, often convincing them to give him 'oil changes'. He also exhibits a fixation on breasts, frequently demanding that his female employees work topless and spending considerable time at strip clubs.
However, Travers is more than just a sleazy fool. He has demonstrated the capacity for genuine kindness and loyalty to his friends, and he even occasionally shows signs of bravery. Travers is also a very religious goblin, often referencing "Ed" (short for The Editor), the Waldoverse's version of God. His favorite catchphrase is to tell people he disagrees with that they are "speaking out of turn".
History:
Travers' origins trace back to 2021 when he emerged as one of the more dominant alternate personalities of the mad goblin Widdle Frunkut, who suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder. Physically, Travers is nearly identical to WF, except for his distinct hair, moustache, and dress sense. Over time, Travers developed into a powerful, fully realized personality, often competing with WF for control of their shared body. Their rivalry continued comically for years until they were eventually separated, with Travers being magically granted his own form.
Since gaining independence, Travers has constructed a fictional history for himself, spinning elaborate tales about his past. He frequently boasts of having been married to Marilyn Monroe, mentoring JFK, and single-handedly ending the Cuban Missile Crisis. Naturally, these stories are entirely fabricated, as are his claims of having fought in the Vietnam and Afghanistan Wars.
Notable Relationships:
- Master Devlin: Travers' best friend. Although their relationship began on a tense note, with the uptight, no-nonsense Devlin initially despising the slick and smooth-talking Travers, the two quickly formed a close bond, much like the dynamic in a classic buddy cop movie.
- Widdle Frunkut: Friend, employee, competitor, and even father... Born from Waldo's malfunctioning Operating System, Travers originally existed as one of Widdle Frunkut's alternate personalities. Now, with their own separate bodies, they share a friendly yet competitive relationship. Despite being nearly identical in appearance, their personalities couldn't be more different.
- Fiona Angela Travers (née Malone): Travers’ current wife and First Lady of Waldonia. Former politician, escort, and reformed vampire.
- Mayuri Shiina Travers' ex-wife and ex-partner of Travers, Travers and Shiina law firm. Now Queen of Waldonia.
- Ermintrude Maine-Anjou: Travers' faithful, busty personal assistant.
- Kyle Konrad: Former assistant to Travers and former Prime Minister of Waldonia. He now serves as the Vice President of Waldonia, continuing his political career under Travers’ administration.
- Mr. Vincent Raymond and Mr Ian Boothe: Former lackeys, now government ministers. Longtime lackeys of Travers, they now serve under the Travers Administration.
- Brian "Kyle" Cavendish: A writer for The Waldopolis Chronicle, whom Travers persistently misnames, despite claiming to be a father-like figure to him.
Career:
Travers' career trajectory is a classic case of "failing upwards." He transitioned from a relatively inept lawyer to the mayor of Widdlington, Waldoshire. His ambition led him to briefly assume the role of a tyrannical dictator and the first Emperor of "Waldonia" (formerly Waldoshire) during a period of power-induced madness. After realising the error of his ways, he relinquished the throne to his ex-wife, Mayuri, who rebranded herself from Kaiserin Mayuri von Walverschmidt to Queen Mayuri I and restored Waldonia to a constitutional monarchy.
Following his fall from grace, Travers managed to talk his way into serving as the Editor-in-Chief of The Waldopolis Chronicle, once a historic Widdlington broadsheet but now a sleazy tabloid under his stewardship.
During the Vampire Crisis, snap elections and constitutional reforms were called to stabilise the nation, propelling Travers to the position of the first President of Waldonia, a role he currently holds.
Harris Travers has an uncanny ability to avoid consequences despite his numerous misdeeds and criminal activities, largely due to his skill in projecting a facade of harmlessness and contrition. Despite his notoriety and previous prominent positions, most Waldonians fail to recognise him in public. Whether this is due to goblin glamour or the apolitical nature of the populace is unclear, but it works to his advantage by preventing angry street confrontations.
Legacy:
Travers is considered a breakout character in the Waldoverse show. Originally a minor, recurring character as an alternate personality, he has now arguably become the star of the show in recent times.
